    Gold Award

This morning we celebrated the achievements of four students who completed their Gold award last year and who returned to school to collect their Gold badges. They all worked very hard and undertook challenging expeditions in Skye, Glencoe and Peru. They were involved in Young enterprise, helped with Rainbows, Cubs or Brownies and played hockey or rugby.

They will now go to either St James Palace or Holyrood Palace to receive their certificates from a member of the Royal Family.

Mr Richard Chester leaves King Edward VII and Queen Mary School this September due to the redundancy of a Modern Languages post. Colleagues, parents and pupils will wish to thank Mr Chester for his tremendous contribution over many years, not just in the classroom but also to rugby and cricket teams at the school, most recently on the recent very successful tour to New Zealand. We wish him the very best in his future career.

    Day 19 Wednesday 4th August
Today was one of those days, weather-wise, when you hope you haven't got to go outside at all as it was raining .........hard!! However as we come to the closing part of the tour we can count ourselves lucky that this is the first time since we have been in the NZ winter that the weather has been bad.

    Day 18 - Tuesday 3rd August
After the relaxing day yesterday it was off on the next leg of the tour, to Saint Kentigern's in Auckland. The group, now expert at packing, were all ready on time for the coach, and our driver Peter, who had driven us from Queenstown to Christchurch and to Kaikoura, started the task of getting all the cases into the coach!! Definitely not an easy feat and certainly it helped to be good at puzzles!

Two groups successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Gold expeditions in July. Although this was a strenuous undertaking of walking for 4 days covering about 18 kilometers each day and camping in the middle of nowhere at night, the students were rewarded wih some excellent scenery and views and clearly enjoyed themselves! We hope the 3rd group will be just as successful in Snowdonia at the end of August.
